Royal Caribbean said it did not yet ⁠have ⁠information regarding the decision.

​Mexico's Environment Minister ‌Alicia Barcena ​said on Tuesday that Royal Caribbean's "Perfect ‌Day" project in the state of Quintana Roo "is not going to be approved."

The ‌company had planned to develop ‌a major tourist attraction in Mahahual, a coastal town in southern Quintana Roo near ⁠a ​coral ⁠reef. Mexico's environment ministry released Barcena's comments in a ⁠video on social media.

According to local ​media, Barcena said the decision was based ⁠on the area's ecological importance and ⁠the ​need to protect marine and coastal ecosystems associated with the ⁠reef. Royal Caribbean said it did not yet ⁠have ⁠information regarding the decision.
