The Kazipet rail manufacturing unit in Telangana, reviewed recently by Ashwini Vaishnaw, is on track to start operations soon. The unit will commence by constructing 200 intercity trains over the next five years. These trains are designed for journeys of up to 300 km, focusing on affordability and convenience for the Indian populace.
According to railroad officials, the manufactured trains will offer modern amenities like automatic doors, enhanced ventilation, and jerk-free travel, achieving speeds up to 130 kmph. Energy efficiency is prioritized with regenerative braking systems, aligning with the country's green transport goals by significantly reducing carbon emissions.
The Ministry emphasized that these intercity trains will strengthen regional connectivity, replicating shuttle services between neighboring towns. As students and commuters increasingly depend on these trains, they are expected to reduce reliance on road travel, thus contributing to a shift towards cleaner transportation solutions across the country.
Highlighting the project's potential benefits, the Ministry referred to the trains as an important step towards modernizing India's rail network, marking Kazipet's important role in boosting eco-friendly infrastructure and addressing local transit needs efficiently and sustainably.
