Puducherry Set for Two New Special Economic Zones

Two special economic zones have been designated in Puducherry. Among them, an IT sector SEZ will be developed by Oulgaret Municipality, marking a first for local urban bodies in India. A multi-sector SEZ is also planned at Karasur village by the Pondicherry Industrial Promotion Development Corporation.

Puducherry is poised to host two newly designated special economic zones (SEZs), according to a government announcement. One SEZ is dedicated to the IT sector and is to be developed by Oulgaret Municipality at Thattanchavady village, representing the first SEZ project undertaken by an urban local body in India.

The decision was ratified during the Board of Approval for SEZs' 137th meeting, held by the Department of Commerce. Additionally, a multi-sector SEZ will be established at Karasur village in Villianur Taluk by the Pondicherry Industrial Promotion Development and Investment Corporation (PIPDIC), broadening the economic landscape of the region.
