In a remarkable testament to resilience and economic momentum, India's automotive sector reported a striking 23% year-on-year increase in the passenger vehicle market for May 2026. Nearly 4.4 lakh units were sold, showcasing the impact of robust domestic demand combined with the 'Make in India' manufacturing initiative.
Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, applauded this performance on social media, attributing it to rising consumer confidence and ambitious industrial growth. He emphasized the role of major companies like Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, and Mahindra & Mahindra in spearheading this surge despite global economic uncertainties.
Automakers achieved impressive figures with Maruti hitting an all-time domestic sales high, Hyundai recording significant domestic growth, and Mahindra marking a 20% overall sales increase.
