In a concerted effort to propel India's seafood export industry, a two-day National Workshop on Seafood Exports convened in Visakhapatnam. The initiative, held from June 5-6, centered on bolstering exports through innovative measures encompassing value addition, sustainability, and expanded market reach.
Inaugurating the event, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal spotlighted the remarkable surge in India's marine exports, which have soared by nearly 70% over the past decade. With India constituting around 4% of the global seafood market, Goyal underscored the imperative to strive for USD 30 billion in seafood exports in five years.
The workshop fostered dynamic discussions among stakeholders, exploring the challenges of disease management, logistical hurdles, and the potential benefits of a Production Linked Incentive framework. The consensus was clear: fortify infrastructure and sustainability measures to bolster India's footing in the global seafood trade market.
