Tensions Surge in Black Sea as Russian Drones Attack Cargo Ships
Two vessels under Panamanian and Barbadian flags were attacked in Ukraine's Black Sea navigation corridor. One ship, carrying metal, was en route to Odesa port, while the other, transporting grain, had already departed. Russian drones carried out the attack, causing fire but no injuries.
Two cargo vessels, one under a Panamanian flag and another under a Barbadian flag, were attacked in the Black Sea navigation corridor overseen by Ukrainian authorities, according to a statement from the Ukrainian Ports Authority on Wednesday.
The vessels were vital to Ukraine's export activities, with one carrying metal to the critical port of Odesa and the other transporting grain from the port. The attack resulted in a brief fire aboard one ship, which was quickly extinguished, allowing both vessels to continue their journeys without injuries reported.
Oleh Kiper, governor of the Odesa region, reported that the attacks were carried out by Russian drones targeting civilian and energy infrastructure. The Russian Defence Ministry has yet to comment on the allegations. The incident highlights the ongoing tension and the precarious nature of maritime navigation in the Black Sea amid the conflict.
