Bharti Airtel, a leading telecom giant, has announced that a significant majority of its shareholders have given the green light to a strategic maneuver aimed at fortifying its stake in Airtel Africa plc. The initiative is expected to bolster its position in a crucial growth market, thereby enhancing long-term shareholder value.

The proposal, which involves issuing equity shares on a preferential basis to Indian Continent Investment Limited (ICIL) in exchange for its 16.31% stake in Airtel Africa, received robust backing from both public and institutional investors. This overwhelming approval underscores confidence in the strategic benefits of the transaction.

Sunil Bharti Mittal, Founder and Chairman of Bharti Enterprises, emphasized the importance of Airtel Africa in the group's growth plans, highlighting its potential to significantly contribute to consolidated revenues. He reaffirmed that the transaction, structured as a cashless share swap, preserves Airtel's capital strength while fostering transparency and governance within the organization.
