India is likely to delay retaliatory tariffs on American products after the US ended India's preferential trade treatment, CNBC-TV18 reported on Friday, citing sources. The news channel claimed in a tweet that the retaliatory tariffs on 29 US products will be deferred until May 15.
India has earlier said that the withdrawal of the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) for Indian products would have limited impact.
India has repeatedly been blamed by US president Donald Trump for imposing "tremendously high" tariffs on American products. He has often termed India as 'tariff king'.
