Bharti Airtel Announces Rs 100 Crore Annual Scholarship for Underprivileged Tech Students
Bharti Airtel Foundation has announced a Rs 100 crore annual scholarship program to support 4,000 underprivileged students in pursuing technology-based engineering programs at top institutes. The merit-cum-means-based program aims to help deserving students, particularly girls, and will start in August 2024 with 250 students.
Bharti Airtel Foundation announced on Tuesday the launch of the 'Bharti Airtel Scholarship Programme', pledging Rs 100 crore annually to assist 4,000 underprivileged students in pursuing technology-based engineering courses at top institutes.
Celebrating its 25th year in 2024, the philanthropic arm of Bharti Enterprises will commence its first cohort in August 2024, benefiting 250 students initially. The programme plans to expand its reach to 4,000 scholars, focusing on students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, particularly girls, with an outlay of over Rs 100 crore per year.
According to Rakesh Bharti Mittal, vice-chairman of Bharti Enterprises, the foundation has impacted over 6 million lives through educational initiatives in the last 25 years. The selected scholars will receive 100 per cent of their college fees and a laptop for the duration of their course, with eligibility criteria including an annual family income not exceeding Rs 8.5 lakh.
