Supreme Court Seeks Response on NEET-SS 2024 Cancellation

The Supreme Court has requested the Centre's response on a petition against the National Medical Commission's decision not to conduct the NEET-Super Speciality examination in 2024. Thirteen aspirants have challenged the decision, citing an earlier ruling that mandates the exam to be held annually.

The Supreme Court on Friday sought responses from the Centre and other parties regarding a plea challenging the National Medical Commission (NMC)'s decision to not conduct the NEET-Super Speciality examination (NEET-SS) in 2024.

Doctors with post-graduate degrees such as MD, MS, and DNB use NEET-SS as a qualifying exam for super-speciality courses. A bench, including Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, was informed by a lawyer for 13 aspirants that the NMC has decided to forgo the exam this year.

According to news reports, NEET-SS is expected to be held in January 2025. The court has issued notices to the Centre, the Medical Counselling Committee, the NMC, and permitted petitioners Rahul Balwan and 12 others to add the National Board of Examinations (NBE) to the petition, scheduling a hearing for July 26.
