Uttar Pradesh Assembly Passes Bill to Combat Exam Malpractices

The Uttar Pradesh Assembly has passed a bill aimed at tackling malpractices in public examinations. The bill stipulates severe penalties, including life imprisonment and fines up to Rs 1 crore for those involved in organized cheating. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized its importance for ensuring transparency and fairness in exams.

The Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Tuesday approved a significant Bill aimed at curbing malpractices in public examinations. The Uttar Pradesh Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill, 2024, imposes stringent penalties including life imprisonment and fines up to Rs 1 crore for those implicated in organized cheating schemes.

The Bill intends to identify and tackle elements exploiting vulnerabilities in the examination system. According to the Bill, investigations will be conducted by DSP or ACP level officers.

Despite opposition calls for the Bill to be sent to a Select Committee, it was passed by a voice vote. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that malpractice in public exams is a grave injustice to youngsters and assured that the government is committed to ensuring transparency, impartiality, and the credibility of the examination system.
