Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi has recommended the creation of four new public libraries in memory of the civil services aspirants who tragically lost their lives last month. This proposal aims to address the scarcity of public and government libraries in key coaching hubs of the city.
On July 27, three UPSC aspirants drowned in a basement library of a coaching center in Old Rajinder Nagar. Additionally, another student died a week earlier in Mukherjee Nagar after coming into contact with a live wire. These areas, along with Patel Nagar and Ber Sarai, will be considered for the new libraries.
In a letter to MCD Commissioner Ashwani Kumar, Mayor Oberoi emphasized the urgent demand for public libraries among students. She proposed using funds from the Mayor's Discretionary Head of Account and requested the identification of feasible land locations for these libraries. This initiative reflects an effort to enhance public reading spaces for students in the city's competitive exam hubs.
