The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has instructed the district magistrate to investigate allegations that a private school suspended a nursery student for bringing non-vegetarian food to school.
The principal of Hilton Convent School, Avnish Kumar Sharma, has been summoned by the district Child Welfare Committee (CWC), while the student's mother considers legal action as her children have stopped attending school out of fear.
A video of a heated argument between the principal and the mother surfaced on social media on September 6, triggering public outcry. The principal alleged the student made religious comments and regularly brought non-veg food. A preliminary probe found no basis for claims of holding the student hostage. However, NCPCR has ordered a new investigation, with a report due in 10 days. CWC Chairman Atulesh Kumar Bhardwaj confirmed the committee's authority to probe harassment cases involving minors.
