The death of Prakriti Lamsal, a Nepali student, at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar has triggered significant controversy. Her father has accused the private engineering college of mistreating undergraduates from Nepal.
The accusations followed a tense atmosphere on campus after Prakriti Lamsal's body was discovered in her hostel room, leading to the eviction of a group of Nepali students. KIIT has apologized for the incident, stating it has never disserved its students. As part of its response, KIIT terminated two security personnel and suspended three officials pending inquiry.
Lamsal's father, Sunil Lamsal, emphasized his hope for justice from the Odisha government. Allegations by Prakriti's cousin suggest blackmail by a fellow student, contributing to her suspected suicide. KIIT donated a heartfelt apology and called for resumed regular academics.
