The Assam government is taking steps to enhance security at NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) centers by urging the Centre to carry out biometric checks on candidates at the gate. This decision comes after reports indicated that many students, despite achieving high scores in the medical entrance exam, lack sufficient knowledge.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted that faculty members at medical colleges expressed concerns about students' academic shortcomings, prompting the government to request an investigation. Following a cabinet meeting, Sarma announced plans to shift exam centers to government schools and involve district commissioners in supervision to ensure transparency.

To further strengthen the examination process, the Assam government will propose amendments requiring national security clearance for health sciences colleges and regulate the rapidly growing private coaching industry. Additionally, awards 'Assam Baibhav,' 'Assam Saurav,' and 'Assam Gaurav' were announced, acknowledging the contributions of various individuals.
