A disturbing trend of suicides among students in educational institutions has led the Supreme Court to intervene, directing the Delhi Police to register an FIR and investigate the deaths of two SC/ST students from IIT-Delhi.

A bench comprising Justices J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan tasked the police with probing the tragic incidents, underscoring that the safety and well-being of students are the responsibility of the institutions.

Highlighting the need for transparency and justice, the court ordered the formation of a National Task Force, led by former Justice S Ravindra Bhat, to address mental health concerns among students.
