A senior professor at India's prestigious IIT Roorkee has been dismissed following disciplinary proceedings related to a sexual harassment allegation. The institute announced Zillur Rahman's removal in an official statement on Tuesday.
Zillur Rahman, aged 60, was found guilty of sexual harassment charges filed in January by a PhD research scholar working under his supervision. As a result, the institute took stringent action against him, prioritizing the commitment to uphold professional ethics and integrity.
Before his dismissal, Rahman was among the senior-most faculty at IIT Roorkee, leading the management studies department. He was supervising more than fifteen research scholars, whose academic pursuits have now been affected by this development.
