In a bid to support young medical professionals, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has introduced higher monthly stipends for interns, junior residents, and senior residents in the state's government medical and dental colleges.

The finance minister revealed that Punjab has 907 sanctioned intern posts, 1,408 junior resident slots, and 754 senior resident positions in its government colleges. Recognizing the need for financial support, the minister detailed significant stipend increases.

Interns will now receive Rs 22,000 per month, while junior residents will see incremental annual increases, starting from Rs 76,000 in the first year. Senior residents will also experience a stipend hike, beginning at Rs 92,000 in the initial year.
