In a troubling incident, four students from the Kasturba Gandhi Girls School in Patamda block, East Singhbhum, were hospitalized on Monday. This came after they allegedly collapsed from being forced to perform 200 sit-ups due to late arrival at school, as reported by their families.
The students, all in class 12, are currently receiving treatment in the ICU of MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur. According to the families, the punishment was imposed because the girls arrived five minutes late, causing them to start vomiting and fall unconscious.
District Education Officer Manoj Kumar has announced an investigation into the matter, promising appropriate action against any teacher found responsible for the punishment. Additionally, JMM MLA Mangal Kalindi, who visited the hospital to ensure the students receive special care, noted the girls' participation in fasting for the holy Shravan month.
