The head of the Telugu Department at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) was injured in an attack by two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle within the campus, police reported on Wednesday.
According to Station House Officer (SHO) of Lanka, Rajkumar Sharma, Professor C S Ramchandra Murthy was targeted while riding his motorcycle. His attackers fled after students nearby raised an alarm. Resulting in a fractured hand, the professor is slated to retire in six months.
A case of attempted murder has been filed, and efforts continue to identify the suspects. Meanwhile, a protest by faculty members calling for justice concluded after assurances by university officials of timely action.
