Former UGC chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar emphasized the critical need for the National Education Policy (NEP) to be uniformly adopted across India to enhance academic standards and meet economic demands.

Speaking at the Vikas 2025 programme at Visva-Bharati University, he stressed that despite some states rebranding it as 'State Education Policy,' the essence of NEP's recommendations should remain intact nationwide.

Kumar highlighted the NEP's focus on multidisciplinary learning, flexibility, and indigenous knowledge, stating that disparate implementation among states could disadvantage students, especially regarding higher education opportunities.
