In a significant development at Tezpur University, senior faculty member Dhruba Kumar Bhattacharyya has assumed the position of acting vice chancellor amid ongoing student protests. The unrest continues in response to allegations of corruption against the incumbent Vice Chancellor, Shambhu Nath Singh, along with calls for his removal.
The campus has been in shutdown mode since November 29, causing the cancellation of end-term exams. Bhattacharyya aims to resume exams from December 8. However, students remain adamant in their demands, insisting the agitations will persist until their grievances are addressed and a thorough investigation is launched.
The situation intensified when Mass Communication professor Joya Chakraborty declined an appointment as pro-VC. The university's faculty and staff, united against what they deem an illegal Board of Management meeting, are standing firm with the students' cause, making regular academic activities a distant reality.
