Jadavpur University has been allotted Rs 47 crore under the Rashtriya Uchchatara Shiksha Abhiyaan (RUSA 2.0) scheme, concluding a protracted delay in disbursing the second instalment of funding. This development marks a significant step for the university in overcoming recent financial constraints.
The allocation, delivered via the state's education department under a 60:40 funding ratio between the central and state governments, comes with a stringent condition for full utilisation by March 31, aligning with the current financial year's conclusion. This grant represents the final portion of a Rs 100 crore package allocated to the university, the initial Rs 53 crore of which was distributed in 2019.
University officials, including Vice Chancellor Chiranjib Bhattacharya, highlighted plans to prioritise essential projects with the funds, such as establishing an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, enhancing research facilities, and instituting faculty scholarships. This funding arrival is anticipated to alleviate financial pressures and bolster academic initiatives at Jadavpur University.
