A government teacher in Jammu and Kashmir has been suspended after a student, Saba Banoo, allegedly died by suicide in the Doda district. The incident has prompted a governmental inquiry.

Banoo, a 19-year-old student at Government Degree College, Doda, reportedly jumped into the Chenab River at Pul Doda on January 16. The family claims she took the extreme step following scolding by teachers for carrying a mobile phone during a test.

Authorities, including local volunteers and SDRF personnel, are still searching for the student's body. Assistant Professor Manzoor Ahmad has been suspended as the investigation proceeds, and a committee will deliver a report within seven days.
