The islands of Andaman and Nicobar saw a 14-hour bandh on Monday protesting a proposed deemed university. Organizers believe this change could disrupt current affiliations with Pondicherry University, impacting student degrees.
The Joint Action Forum Against Deemed University, comprising over 100 organizations, spearheaded the protest. Their diverse membership includes travel associations, hotel and trade bodies, and several political organizations, excluding the BJP.
Despite the protest notification's rejection by authorities, the forum promised a peaceful bandh, focusing on safeguarding academic interests. The BJP endorses the proposal, asserting it will enhance higher education in the islands.
