Schools in West Bengal are grappling with a shortage of cooking gas cylinders, affecting their midday meal programs. In response, administrators are resorting to alternative fuels such as firewood, leading to limited menus for students.
At Krishnachandrapur High School, authorities anticipated the shortage and stocked firewood, using it to prepare meals for 1,500 students. Meanwhile, Barojaguli Gopal Academy has exhausted its LPG supplies, pushing them to seek help from local suppliers and government offices to avoid halting meals.
In central Kolkata, schools like Rani Rashmoni High School are facing similar issues, with some turning to voluntary organizations for food supplies. School officials emphasize the need for government action to restore normalcy, as they explore options like coal and diesel to keep meals going.
