The Delhi Parents Association (DPA) has called upon Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Education Minister Ashish Sood to address the pressing issue of overdue school fee refunds, estimated at over Rs 1,317 crore. This request stems from recommendations by the Justice Anil Dev Singh Committee, which examined unwarranted fee hikes by private schools.
In a formal memorandum submitted to the Delhi government, the association emphasized the need for transparency and disclosure of all schools liable for these refunds. On May 8, this issue will be reviewed by the Delhi High Court. The committee had initially identified schools responsible for excess fee collections back in 2016; however, their activities continued till 2020.
The DPA has voiced concerns about ambiguities in the number of schools and their refund obligations. They argue that some schools remain outside public records or court challenges, increasing the refund liability. The association calls for a comprehensive list and an online claim portal for parents, ensuring a transparent and systematic refund process.
