Delhi University has intervened in St Stephen's College's appointment of its new principal, Susan Elias, citing non-compliance with the University Grants Commission (UGC) Regulations, 2018. The university requested the halt in the appointment process, emphasizing that without adherence to these regulations, the selection committee's recommendations remain invalid.
The letter from DU registrar, addressed to the college's governing body chairman, detailed the necessary qualifications and formation of a selection committee as per UGC rules. DU clarified that as a centrally-funded institution, St Stephen's must abide by these standards.
