The Maharashtra cabinet on Tuesday approved the allotment of 15 acres of government land in Raigad district to the Ritnand Balved Education Foundation for the expansion of Amity University.
The decision to allot land in Bhatan village of Panvel tehsil was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said in a statement.
The Ritnand Balved Education Foundation, the parent organisation of Amity University, currently offers academic programmes through 18 disciplines. More than 5,000 students are enrolled at the university.
The private institution had sought additional land to introduce new courses and expand its educational facilities.
Accordingly, the cabinet approved the allotment of about 15 acres of government land at Bhatan as a special case.
The land will be allotted on occupancy rights after payment of the prescribed premium, and under Class-II tenure conditions.
The CMO stated that the land will be used for educational purposes, including construction of an academic complex, sports grounds, hostels, a library and laboratories.
