Aaditya opposes any move to establish university inside Sanjay Gandhi National Park

Shiv Sena UBT leader Aaditya Thackeray on Thursday opposed any move to establish a university inside Sanjay Gandhi National Park SGNP, saying Mumbaikars do not need such projects.Reacting to reports about proposals to rename SGNP as Atal Bihari Vajpayee Park and establish the Bharatratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee University, Thackeray said, This is stupidity and selfishness.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray on Thursday opposed any move to establish a university inside Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), saying Mumbaikars do not need such projects.

Reacting to reports about proposals to rename SGNP as Atal Bihari Vajpayee Park and establish the 'Bharatratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee University', Thackeray said, ''This is stupidity and selfishness. Whoever has made such proposals should either be jailed or needs treatment.''.

SGNP, a protected forest, spans 103 square kilometres within Mumbai's city limits and hosts a thriving population of leopards.

How someone can even think of building a university inside Sanjay Gandhi National Park and a housing project for 5 lakh people, the Sena (UBT) leaders wondered, referring to the reports.

''Why such a habit of harming the environment so much? What kind of hatred is this toward our environment?' he asked.

The former state environment minister said Mumbaikars do not need these projects.
