Aranmore Catholic College, in Leederville, Perth in Western Australia, that had earlier barred a 15-year-old Hindu girl, Sanya Singhal, because of a nose piercing has taken her back.
Sanya had shown the teachers a note from her mother saying that the nose stud could not be taken out for 12 months for religious reasons. However, the school told her that she could not attend classes till she took it off.
Today, the teenager returned to school after six weeks off with the nose stud still intact. Kalyani Singhal, her mother, said it was a great relief to them that Sanya had resumed her classes. She said the six weeks had been very much stressful for them as she was worried about the missing out on classes, exams and assignments. Kalyani acknowledged the school's promise to give Sanya extra assistance.
The incident had left a significant impact on the Hindu community and had supported Sanya and her family throughout the ordeal.
Declan Tanham the college principal confirmed about Sanya rejoining the school and declined to comment further.
