Strengthening the education sector is a top priority for the Cambodian government, says Prime Minister Hun Sen. He said they will be expanding scholarships for outstanding and underprivileged students.

Sen said he appreciated the efforts of the ministry as well as lecturers, teachers, students, parents, communities and the local authorities for contributing to the development of Cambodia’s education system.

“Strengthening the quality of Cambodia’s education is a priority for the government. Measures have included technical and vocational education and training, science and technology training and job market orientation, especially strengthening technical skills for youths aimed at ensuring each one has at least one skill to improve their livelihoods and contribute to social development and the national economy.”

The PM said educational reforms such as building new schools, strengthening the quality of learning and teaching, and update curriculums will increase the quality of Cambodian workers to meet the demands of the Kingdom’s job market. “The government will continue to provide an additional annual budget for education to recruit and train teachers, which is the main priority, in order to improve the curriculum and strengthen management ability and exam quality.”

He added the government is also considering salary increases for teachers and academic staff.
