Malla Reddy Launches Skill India Initiative's RPL Program at Hyderabad

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a program to assess and recognize the individual’s prior learning skills, which was obtained informally and help them get equal acceptance as of formal education. This is a certification program recognized by the government of India.

Media & Entertainment Skills Council, a Non-Profit Organization and a part of the Skill India initiative, has launched Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) at Hyderabad. The program was launched by Malla Reddy, Minister for Employment, Women and Child Development, Govt. of Telangana. Media & Entertainment Skills Council (MESC) is promoted by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) with financial support from National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

Ms. Pratibha Pulijala, Advisor – South Region of MESC will lead the program, which is conducted free for participants on 18th & 19 December at Lions Bhavan, behind HDFC bank at Paradise circle. This free program will be done for dancers, actors, scriptwriters, sound editors, digital marketing managers, community journalists, graphic designers. People who get trained in the program will get a Government recognized certificate, Rs 500 as reward money, and Rs. 2 lakh accidental insurance. Speaking on the occasion, Malla Reddy said, "I am very glad to launch this initiative here. I strongly believe that these steps are very much necessary to skill up the individuals working in the media sector, enabling greater employment opportunities who learn on their jobs with no formal education. Moreover, there is a dire need to empower industry to global standards, which is possible only with internationally acceptable levels of assessment and certification."

Ms. Pratibha Pulijala reiterating the importance of the certification says, "This is one of the biggest skill development program in the country giving away the most prestigious and credible certification enabling the beneficiaries to avail identity and getting recognized as formal professionals. This Certification was executed in six states starting from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala in Media & entertainment skills from films to television to Photography to graphics, animations to print media. The workshops of MESC covers 65 job roles."

"The Certified individual's data is stored in our database. We also have a job portal where the media companies can post their job openings or look for experienced people. For the same benefit, we are tying up with different institutions like Telugu film Association 24 crafts; Television Employer Association (TTT& WF); Telangana films Association 24 crafts; Chennai film Association 24 crafts (FEFSI); Kerala film Association 24 crafts (FEFKA) and Film studios like Annapurna Studios, Photriya Academy, Laxwel adds& recording studios, Telangana Film employees Federation among others."

All the workshops and programs are designed with a national skill qualification framework, aligned with industry requirements and guiding the trainers to match the expectations. MESC has a mandate to create 11.74 lakhs skilled manpower by 2022 and contribute to the National Skill Mission for creating 500 million Skilled human resources by 2022. These workshops are to recognize those skills under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana. The government is recognizing such skills through various organizations and associations, through a process of industry-aligned assessment and helping them get certified with the certificate issued by Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, in association with the concerned organization. This certification is Aadhaar linked and valid for lifetime, both in India and abroad.
