Sharan Sharma’s 'Mr. & Mrs. Mahi': A Love Letter to Cricket

Filmmaker Sharan Sharma drew inspiration from the film 'Lagaan' for his latest cricket-themed drama 'Mr. & Mrs. Mahi', starring Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkumar Rao. The film, emphasizing storytelling over the sport, portrays the story of Mahendra, a former cricketer, and Mahima, a doctor with cricketing ambitions.

Filmmaker Sharan Sharma has revealed that the iconic cricket drama 'Lagaan' served as a major inspiration for his new film 'Mr. & Mrs. Mahi'. This human drama, featuring Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkumar Rao, is set against the cricketing backdrop and tells the story of Mahendra, a former cricketer, and Mahima, a doctor with cricketing talent.

Sharma emphasized that the focus of 'Mr. & Mrs. Mahi' is on storytelling rather than the sport itself. 'There's so much cricket to watch in general, so I’m not going to a theatre to watch cricket, I go there to watch a story,' he explained. The film’s cricket sequences were shot to highlight the drama, taking cues from 'Lagaan'.

The director, known for his debut film 'Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl', expressed his dedication to detail in every aspect related to cricket in the movie. Sharma described the film as a love letter to the sport, detailing his effort to use equipment endorsed by cricket icons M S Dhoni and Virat Kohli. 'Mr. & Mrs. Mahi' chronicles the empowerment of Mahima through her husband's encouragement to pursue her cricket dream.
