Veteran journalist and columnist Babu Rajendra Prasad Bhaskar, widely known as BRP Bhaskar, has passed away at the age of 92. He had been battling age-related ailments for some time and took his last breath at a private hospital, sources confirmed.

Bhaskar's career, spanning over seven decades, saw him as a cornerstone of formidable media establishments like The Hindu, The Statesman, Deccan Herald, and United News of India. Born in Kollam, Kerala, on March 12, 1932, he initiated his journalism journey by contributing articles under his nickname to a newspaper owned by his father. Bhaskar formally entered professional journalism with The Hindu in 1952.

After stints with various media groups, including a significant role at the national news agency UNI starting in 1966, BRP served as bureau chief in key regions, such as Jammu and Kashmir and Kolkata. In the 1990s, he retired but remained active in social issues, earning accolades such as the Kerala Sahitya Academy Award. Governor Arif Mohammed Khan and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan paid heartfelt tributes, acknowledging his unwavering commitment to media ethics and professionalism.
