Sub-Lieutenant Anamika B Rajeev has etched her name in Indian Navy history by becoming the first woman helicopter pilot. At a ceremony held on Friday, she received the 'Golden Wings' after completing an intensive 22-week training programme at INS Rajali in Tamil Nadu's Arakkonam.
Lt Jamyang Tsewang, hailing from Ladakh, also graduated as a qualified helicopter pilot, signifying another landmark achievement for the Indian Navy. These milestones were celebrated at a passing-out parade where Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar awarded 'Golden Wings' to 21 officers.
This move underlines the Navy's commitment to gender inclusivity, further bolstered by recent deployments of women pilots for the Dornier-228 maritime surveillance aircraft. In the years to come, the Navy aims to broaden the horizons for women in key operational roles.
