Sikkim marked International Yoga Day on Friday, as Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya participated in a yoga session at Paljor Stadium.
Governor Acharya lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for elevating yoga's status on the global stage, turning June 21 into a worldwide celebration.
Expressing his contentment with the festivities, Acharya noted, 'The global recognition is a testament to the Prime Minister's commitment and leadership in making yoga an integral part of Indian culture, respected and recognised globally.'
He emphasized that through yoga, India has successfully shared the philosophy of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam'—the idea of one earth, one family, and one future.
Noting the increasing popularity of yoga for its messages of peace, fraternity, and harmony, the governor expressed optimism that Sikkim could emerge as a world-class hub for yoga and meditation. Such development could enhance local tourism, the economy, and provide people with techniques for healthy living.
He called on everyone to embrace the theme 'Yoga for Yourself and Society' to foster a healthy lifestyle, promote well-being in Sikkim, and contribute to a resilient nation and world.
