Britain’s Princess Anne, the sister of King Charles III, has been hospitalized after sustaining minor injuries and a concussion during an incident in Bristol, Buckingham Palace confirmed on Monday.
The 73-year-old Princess Royal was injured at the Gatcombe Park estate on Sunday evening, with horses believed to be involved, potentially resulting in minor head wounds. She remains at Southmead Hospital in Bristol as a precaution.
“Princess Anne has sustained minor injuries and a concussion following an incident at Gatcombe Park estate yesterday evening,” stated the palace. “Her Royal Highness remains in Southmead Hospital as a precautionary measure for observation and is expected to make a full and swift recovery. The King has been kept closely informed and joins the entire royal family in sending their warmest wishes for her speedy recovery.”
The palace reassured that Princess Anne, a senior working royal, is “recovering well” and comfortable. Medical advice has led to the postponement of her upcoming engagements, including a trip to Canada and attendance at a state banquet honoring Japanese Emperor Naruhito.
Princess Anne’s husband, Sir Tim Laurence, along with her daughter Zara Tindall and son Peter Phillips, were present at the estate during the incident. Laurence accompanied her to the hospital.
