The Maharashtra government has taken a significant step by deciding to form the Mukhyamantri Warkari Mahamandal ahead of the 'Ashadhi Ekadashi'. This new corporation aims to offer comprehensive facilities for Warkaris and Kirtankars, who are devotees of Lord Vithoba.
The social justice department issued a government resolution confirming the establishment of this corporation, which will be headquartered in Pandharpur, home to the famous Vitthal Rukmini temple in Solapur district. The centuries-old tradition sees lakhs of Warkaris, comprising peasants, labourers, and farmers, embarking on foot pilgrimages to Pandharpur annually.
The corporation will focus on developing pilgrim sites, offering medical care, food, security, and insurance. Additionally, it plans to enhance the roads used for 'palkhi' processions and address the pollution in the Chandrabhaga, Indrayani, and Godavari rivers.
