Security Measures Tightened for Sanctified Sawan Celebrations

The Uttar Pradesh government has implemented extensive security protocols for the auspicious month of Sawan starting from July 22 to August 19. Arrangements in Varanasi and Muzaffarnagar include vehicle restrictions, CCTV monitoring, and transportation for elderly and disabled devotees. The police are enhancing measures to ensure a smooth and safe Kanwar Yatra.

The Uttar Pradesh government announced stringent security and logistical measures as the sacred month of Sawan begins on Monday. These efforts aim to guarantee smooth 'darshan' and safety for devotees paying homage to Lord Shiva.

Spanning July 22 to August 19, Sawan will see droves of devotees embark on their journey, carrying 'kanwars' to perform the 'jalabhishek' ritual. Officials highlighted Varanasi's initiatives, including a vehicle-free zone from Maidagin to Godowlia, with e-rickshaws allocated for the elderly and disabled. Additionally, barriers and zig-zag pathways to Kashi Vishwanath temple have been installed to manage crowds efficiently, alongside comprehensive CCTV surveillance for added safety.

More provisions to shelter devotees from the sun and rain have also been arranged, marking the first-ever use of entry via the 'Silko Gate.' Along with these, a dedicated lane on the Prayagraj to Varanasi national highway has been reserved for 'kanwariyas.' Authorities have also introduced live broadcasting of temple events through six LED screens within the complex and offered various support services, including water, ORS, and medical assistance.
