Heritage enthusiasts are raising their voices to rescue a deteriorating British-era steamroller in Darbhanga, Bihar. This vintage machine, which bears a striking resemblance to a recently restored steamroller in Patna, has been lying neglected near Gangasagar Lake for years. Advocates emphasize its historic and cultural significance.

Local museums near Gangasagar Lake, including the Maharaja Laxmeshwar Singh Museum and the Chandradhari Museum, have not yet taken action. Despite the machine's unmistakable resemblance to the Patna steamroller, which was manufactured by the now-defunct John Fowler and Co., no government agency has shown interest in saving it.

The demand for rescuing the Darbhanga steamroller coincides with India hosting the 46th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in New Delhi. Derek Rayner of the UK-based Road Roller Association expressed hope that this vintage beauty will also receive the attention it deserves.
