Ram Chet, a humble cobbler from Sultanpur, has been thrust into the limelight after a chance visit from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Gandhi stopped by Chet's shop on July 26, engaging in conversations about his family and even trying his hand at stitching a slipper.
Since the visit, Chet's fortunes have taken a dramatic turn. 'My world has completely changed. Nobody knew me before, but now people come to my shop and take selfies with me,' Chet remarked. He disclosed that he had received multiple offers for the 'lucky' slipper stitched by Gandhi, the highest being Rs 10 lakh, but he refused to sell.
Government officials have also begun to pay more attention to Chet's issues following Gandhi's visit. The Congress leader was in Sultanpur to attend a court hearing related to a defamation case filed against him by local BJP leader Vijay Mishra.
