In an unusual incident in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, local police had to step in after two sons refused to cremate their octogenarian father, who had died on August 1. According to officials, this intervention was necessary as the two men from Dabra town ignored requests from both their neighbors and relatives.

The deceased, identified as Prem Narayan Shrivastava, was an 80-year-old retired government employee. Dabra police station in charge, Yashwant Goyal, stated that despite repeated pleas, Shrivastava's sons were adamant about not performing the last rites. The police then warned the siblings that authorities would take over and conduct the cremation if they continued to refuse.

After this stern warning, the sons finally relented, and Shrivastava was cremated the same evening. Goyal also mentioned that there was no suspicion surrounding Shrivastava's natural death.
