Legendary filmmaker David Lynch, famed for works like 'Twin Peaks' and 'Eraserhead,' announced on Monday that he has been diagnosed with emphysema. Despite the lung disease, Lynch expressed immense happiness and vowed never to retire.

In an interview with Sight and Sound magazine, Lynch cited years of smoking as the cause of his emphysema, a condition that has no known cure. “I enjoyed smoking,” Lynch admitted, noting he has now quit the habit for over two years. He emphasized his good overall health apart from the lung disease.

The 78-year-old director revealed that due to his health and the risk posed by COVID-19, he's now homebound. He admitted the likelihood of directing in-person again is slim but mentioned exploring remote directing options, despite finding the idea distasteful.
