Authorities in Maharashtra have processed one crore applications under the Mukhya Mantri Ladki Bahin Yojana, the state government's flagship scheme aimed at supporting underprivileged women. Only 7,000 applications have been rejected, according to the Shiv Sena.
Sanjay Nirupam, a Shiv Sena spokesperson, revealed that a total of 2.5 crore applications have been received. The deadline for submissions is August 31, with the number of beneficiaries expected to exceed 3.5 crore.
Opposition parties argue that the scheme is financially unsustainable and would heavily burden the state’s finances, which has been earmarked for an annual outlay of Rs 46,000 crore. Eligible women, including married, divorced, and destitute individuals aged 21 to 65, will receive a monthly stipend.
