Dibrugarh University and NTF Digitize Rare Assamese Manuscripts

Dibrugarh University, in partnership with the Nanda Talukdar Foundation (NTF), is digitizing over 1,000 rare Assamese manuscripts. This initiative will make these ancient texts accessible to the global public, preserving Assam's rich cultural heritage. The manuscripts, written in multiple languages, cover various subjects including religious traditions and ancient customs.

Dibrugarh University has forged a partnership with the Nanda Talukdar Foundation (NTF) to digitize and preserve over 1,000 rare Assamese manuscripts. This landmark initiative aims to make these invaluable texts accessible to people around the globe, thus safeguarding Assam's rich literary and cultural heritage.

NTF announced on Thursday that this digitization project will provide unprecedented access to rare Sanchi Paat manuscripts. The university recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NTF to formalize the collaboration, wherein NTF will act as a knowledge partner in preserving and digitizing ancient texts housed in the university's Assamese Department.

These manuscripts, written in old Assamese, Sanskrit, Tai, and Bengali, encompass a wide array of subjects such as Vaishnavism, Buddhism, and ancient customs of Assam. The digitized versions will be publicly available, opening academic and research opportunities globally. Mrinal Talukdar of NTF emphasized the significance of this project, stating that it marks a pivotal step in making Assamese manuscripts accessible and preserving them for future generations. Dibrugarh University Registrar Dr Parmanand Sonowal echoed these sentiments, expressing hope that this initiative will inspire more efforts to protect the region's cultural legacy.
