Austrian authorities arrested three suspects in a foiled conspiracy to attack Taylor Swift concerts, which ultimately led to the cancellation of the events. Fans gathered in Vienna, sharing friendship bracelets and singing Swift's songs. The plot, linked to Islamic extremism, drew comparisons to the 2017 Manchester attack.
Austrian authorities have made three arrests in connection to a foiled terrorist plot targeting Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna, which were consequently cancelled. Disappointed fans responded in Vienna by trading friendship bracelets and singing Swift's songs in the streets.
The main suspect, a 19-year-old, planned to attack concertgoers outside the Ernst Happel Stadium with knives or homemade explosives, aiming to inflict maximum casualties. Two other suspects, aged 17 and 18, were also detained. A 15-year-old was questioned but not arrested.
The plot had links to the Islamic State and al-Qaida, with the suspects pledging allegiance to the extremist groups. Authorities are being thorough in their investigations, examining physical and electronic evidence. Despite the cancellations, Swift is still set to perform at London's Wembley stadium.
