Congress vs. BJP: Battle Over the Tricolour

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President K Selvaperunthagai has urged party members to hold tricolour marches and padayatras, criticizing the BJP for attempting to 'appropriate' the national flag with their Tiranga yatras. He emphasized Congress's historical connection to the flag and accused the RSS of neglecting it for decades.

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President K Selvaperunthagai on Sunday called on party office-bearers to conduct tricolour marches on two-wheelers and organize padayatras, criticizing the BJP for allegedly attempting to 'appropriate' the national flag through Tiranga yatras.

He insisted that no force, including the BJP, could sever Congress's deep bond with the tricolour, and stated that everyone has the right to hoist the national flag on Independence Day. Selvaperunthagai urged district Congress committee presidents to organize 'tricolour motorcycle rallies' in district headquarters, and padayatras in villages and talukas, between August 12 and 15, highlighting the Congress party's historical role during such events.

The TNCC leader accused the RSS of boycotting and insulting the national flag for 52 years, hoisting it only twice, on August 15, 1947, and January 26, 1950, until they did so again on January 26, 2001. Prime Minister Modi's recent 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign has sparked controversy, with Congress and BJP leaders trading barbs over the national symbol.
