Authorities evacuated the Eiffel Tower after a man was seen climbing it hours before the Olympics closing ceremony. The shirtless climber was spotted above the Olympic rings on the tower’s second section. The ceremony was scheduled to take place at Stade de France, far from the Eiffel Tower.

Authorities evacuated the Eiffel Tower after a man was seen climbing the Paris landmark just hours before the Olympics closing ceremony on Sunday.

The shirtless individual was seen scaling the 330-metre (1,083-foot) tower in the afternoon. He was spotted above the Olympic rings on the tower’s second section, just above the first viewing deck.

The closing ceremony was set to begin at Stade de France in the Saint-Denis area, far from the Eiffel Tower, around 9 pm.
