The new Governor of Sikkim, Om Prakash Mathur, made his inaugural visit to Nathula Pass on the India-China border, officials confirmed.

Upon his arrival at Nathula, located at an altitude of 14,140 feet, Mathur was warmly received by General Officer Commanding (GOC) Amit Kapthiyal of the 17 Mountain Division along with other army officials.

'It fills me with immense pride to witness our soldiers serving under such extreme conditions. Their commitment ensures the safety and peace of our nation,' said Mathur, who recently took his oath of office.

During his discussions with the military officials, Mathur learned about the 1967 victory of the Indian Army at Nathula and praised the soldiers as symbols of the entire nation.

As a token of respect, Mathur presented a national flag to the soldiers stationed there.

The Governor then visited the Sherathang War Memorial to pay homage to the soldiers' valor and sacrifices.

He also visited Baba Mandir, situated at 12,400 feet, where he sought blessings and offered prayers for the peace and prosperity of Sikkim. The temple was erected in memory of Harbhajan Singh, a sepoy of the 23rd Punjab Regiment who died near Nathula Pass.
